The Hunger Games Catching Fire finds us in the second novel in the hunger games trilogy.
We follow Katniss Everdeen a girl who lives in post-apocalyptic American in a state called district 12. She with her sister Prim, her mother and her best friend and hunting buddy Gale Hawthorn. She has just survived the hunger games a brutal idea of entertainment designed by the capital a government force that controls the whole of Panem. The hunger games involves the picking of two tributes, children between the age of 12 and 18 that have to fight to the death with 24 other tributes (two from each of the twelve districts) in a brutal arena
Write about the main characters in the novel. Avoid physical descriptions but explain how they cope with the situation they find themselves in and the challenges they face. What kinds of things do they learn? What are the most important things that happen to them? What do they value most?
Katniss Everdeen is a strong fierce and resilient person who has a wicked arm with a bow and arrow. She is worried about the safety of her family and friends when she returns to district twelve after causing an uproar after winning the hunger games with her other tribute from district twelve Peeta Mellark. Katniss values the relationship with her hunting partner gale hawthorn. They have a strong connection with hunting and gathering for their families in the forbidden forest. Katniss is worried about losing the strong connection she has with gale after winning the hunger games because she now lives in the victor’s village where food is a steady supply and there is no need for hunting
The story starts with Katniss in her district in frozen winter air she is dreading the appearance of all the TV and camper crew people form the capitol that will be arriving in the afternoon there are flash backs in this story ones to remind us what happened in the previous book and what happened before the hunger games when Katniss was just a normal district twelve girl. What is lying around the corner for Katniss Everdeen thing that she never imagined in her wildest dreams and what will the quarter quell bring (the 75th anniversary of the beginning of the hunger games.
The most important relationships in this story are the relationships between Katniss and her mother. The relationship between Katniss and her mother is very strained Katniss resents her mother for withdrawing from the world when Katniss father died in a mining explosion.
The book makes you thing about the life you have and how hard it may be for third world countries and how you may be ling compared to third world countries this is in reference to the capital and district twelve the capital is a place rich with resources and money and district twelve has little money and no food people are starving to death every day.
I think that this powerful novel is a wonderful and enthralling read I would recommend it to people 12 and up because his book is a wonderful read in pulls you in from the first chapter and you cannot stop reading until the very end of the book and even then you are eager to read more. It is such an interesting book that I would read it again and again just for the enjoyment of it. I love the way the author Suzanne Collins uses the readers imagination to make the story come alive. The way she describes the arenas and the district you can in vision them and it is really exiting. Wonderful read I would recommend it any day of the year
